in Additional Funding for Oil Spill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tonight, Congressman Anh "Joseph" Cao (LA-02) was among 308 U.S. Representatives who voted in favor of the Senate-passed War & Disaster Supplemental Appropriations bill (H.R. 4899), a measure that will, among other things, provide an additional $162 million to deal with the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The bill, which passed the House by a vote of 308 to 114, now goes to President Obama for his signature.

H.R. 4899 provides a total of $58.8 billion in emergency supplemental appropriations, including: $37.1 billion for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, $13.4 billion in requested mandatory funding for the Veterans Affairs Department for Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent Orange, $5.1 billion for FEMA and $2.9 billion for the response to the January 12th, 2010 Haitian earthquake.
