House Passes Teacher Aid and Medicaid payments bill

By a vote of 247 to 161, the House has passed H.R.1586, which encompasses $26.1 billion in aid to states for Medicaid assistance and money to avert teacher layoffs. The legislation now goes to President Obama, who will soon likely sign it into law.

Following the vote, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other House Democrats held a news conference on the legislative work done today.

Earlier, the House also approved a $600 million border security bill by voice vote, which will now be sent to the Senate for a vote in September when it returns from summer break.
