The American Constitution Society held a discussion about a 2007 Arizona law that penalizes employers for knowingly hiring illegal immigrants and compels businesses to check the immigration status of employees against federal records. Two lower federal courts have upheld the law, known as the Legal Arizona Workers Act, including a unanimous decision by a 3-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals’ Ninth Circuit. On December 8, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral argument in the case.
