Washington, D.C, USA – Saigon, Vietnam, July 1:
On this first day of July 2011, Voice of Vietnamese Americans stands in solidarity with all Vietnamese inside and outside of Vietnam, together with all Southeast Asian Peoples represented by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), international communities represented by the United Nations (UN), to raise collective concerns on the global security threat due to the CPC’s expansion policy in the Southeast Asia Sea (South China Sea).

The CPC has shown increasing aggressions with disrespect for the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in the Southeast Asia Sea (1982), disregarding the ASEAN Declaration on the South China Sea (1992), as well as ignoring the ASEAN Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) (2002).

China’s ships has opened fire on fishermen, cutting cables of Vietnamese surveying ships, banned fishing in the Exclusive Economic Zones belonging to Vietnam and the Philippines, and threatened to use its power to claim ownership of more than 80% of the Southeast Asia Sea. It has imposed the 9 dotted line called U shape which infringes on the sovereignty of Southeast Asian nations, disregarding all regional and international agreements China has officially signed with ASEAN and the United Nations.

While recognizing Chinese People as peace loving and hard working people, we condemn the CPC for abusing its power, under-minding traditional Chinese culture, not honoring its own signature on the UNCLOS and international treaties, and putting the Chinese people in severe conflicts with their traditional culture and with the world.

We condemn the CPC for dilemmas in the mainland China with workers having to resort to committing suicides due to social injustice, religious practitioners and Falun Gong followers being brutally persecuted, toxic foods including infant milk and other carcinogenic products being manufactured and sold to its own people, nationalism being triggered to promote aggressions toward its neighboring countries.

Repeatedly, tragedies in the South China Sea, repressions in Xinjiang, Tibet and Uyghur, following the overbearing Beijing 2008 Olympics and the unforgettable Tiananmen Square Massacre continue to raise global concerns about the CPC’s self-serving aggression toward its own people and neighboring countries.

In 2011, the Communist Party of China has openly defied the world’s consensus of human rights when it refused to recognize the global Nobel Peace Prize, awarded to Dr. Liu Xiaobo. Dr. Liu has been imprisoned for his peaceful quest for freedom of speech. The case of Dr. Liu Xiaobo represents not only 1.3 billion Chinese, but the conscience of humanity being suppressed by the CPC.

We call for the CPC to immediately stop its aggressiveness, to conform to the Charter of the United Nations, respecting international laws, human rights, protect the environment, and stop bullying its neighboring countries.

We also call for the joint forces of the United States, the European Union, ASEAN members, Asian countries such as India, Japan, Korea, and Australia, to collectively emphasize the importance of a global collaboration with zero tolerance to aggressiveness and expansionism.

We advocate saying NO to the CPC’s self-proclaimed U-shape map in the Southeast Asia Sea, and YES to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in resolving disputes in the Southeast Asia Sea.

We respectfully request His Excellency Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, President Obama of the United States, President Yudhoyono of Indonesia who is the current Chair of ASEAN, the European Union, and all of the World Leaders, to urge the CPC to refrain from using force and from creating incidents in the Southeast Asia Sea.

We strongly urge the CPC to conduct multilateral dialogue with ASEAN based on the UNCLOS with the participation of global stakeholders, including India, Japan, South Korea, Australia, the European Union, and the United States.

We condemn the CPC for abusing its power to pressure small nations into submissive position in bilateral talks. All bilateral talks and agreements between the CPC and the CPV are hereby deemed unacceptable and not approved by the People of Vietnam.

The Communist Party of China should stop bullying its own people and its neighboring countries.

The Communist Party of Vietnam should stop being a vassal state to the CPC and risking Vietnam’s sovereignty.

The People of China and the People of Vietnam demand a new era of freedom, democracy, and sustainable economic growth with human rights and equal justice for all.
