Happy New Year: VVA Congratulates the Power of the People in 2011

.

On December 22, Voice of Vietnamese Americans joined many representatives from many grassroots organizations in supporting President Obama to call for a bi-partisan approach from Congress to pass the Temporary Payroll Tax Cut Continuation Act of 2011 - To extend the payroll tax holiday, unemployment compensation, Medicare physician payment, provide for the consideration of the Keystone XL pipeline, and for other purposes.

Shortly afterward, Speaker of the House, Congressman John Boehner (R-OH), made statement saying the GOP agreed to compromise.

The Bill was signed into law by President Obama on December 23, 2011.

This very Act ensures that 160 millions of Americans with income of $50,000/ year would not see tax raised on their paycheck starting January 2012; 2 millions of unemployed Americans are now ensured their families have food on the table while they continue looking for jobs; 48 millions of senior Americans can rest assured that they can still receive adequate health care during this winter, and our fragile economy can have the chance to recover.
